Middle market PE group operating in the logistics and manufacturing space. The PE group was led by a lean team of advisors to manage the companies they invested in, but needed a deep understanding across every company, quickly and efficiently.
Challenge
The PE Group client was looking to get better and more efficient reporting for their portfolio companies. This was not just used for board reporting but also to assure that portfolio companies had access to data to make the correct decisions at the company level.
Being in the manufacturing space the companies operated very well in their field, but had limited experience in data and analysis, and had limited options to provide real-time metrics to the PE group.
Solution
We worked with 3 of the portfolio companies to implement data infrastructure and dashboards across the organization.
We developed KPIs based on industry and specific company indicators with input from the PE group executives
We deployed Tableau Online Server for all portfolio companies while maintaining security of data across each company
Developed automated data pipelines to update data on a daily and real-time process where possible.
Impact
With the added visibility the PE group was able to provide cost savings techniques to the portfolio companies
As we implemented these dashboards just prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, the manufacturing companies were able to adjust their supply chains to address issues including timing to fill orders, and increasing costs and hurdles.
The PE group now confidently can continue investing with the knowledge the can quickly deploy dashboards and infrastructure to monitor new and existing investments.
